Cherry Creek State Park
Location: Arapahoe County, one mile south of Interstate 225 off Parker Road

Cherry Creek State Park features prairie surrounding 880-acre Cherry Creek Reservoir and calls itself “Denver’s big back yard.”

Activities include camping, picnicking, swimming, boating and an off-leash dog area.

Some harder-to-find facilities, such as model airplane flying, horseback riding and a family shooting range, are also available.

On weekends, the park is often filled to capacity, but in the off-season and during the week it’s less crowded.

Winter offers hiking and cold-weather activities such as cross-country skiing. Group picnic and camping areas and an Amphitheatre are available by reservation.
