Just north of Colorado Springs, Great Wolf Lodge offers a water park and hotel designed for children and their adults, all under one roof.
The lodge, one of 15 in the chain, opened in 2016 and has already attracted a loyal following to its backwoods-themed space.
The Colorado Springs lodge has 311 hotel rooms and three pools, including a wave pool and separate shallow pool for little guests, totaling 50,000 square feet. There are also four water slides that jut out of the resort’s east side.
When water palls, the resort offers many other activities. There’s a large arcade, bowling lanes, a build-a-bear workshop, water course for sluice mining, and a kid-oriented nail salon. Overhead, parents and kids can try their balance on an extensive ropes course.
There’s kid yoga in the morning, a story hour with animated characters in the evening, and a pajama dance party daily. Older kids can take part in a magician’s scavenger hunt with wands that reveal clues, and lodge staff create balloon animals to order and organize creative arts activities. There’s an adult-oriented fitness center.
Meal options range from a Dunkin’ Donuts open early for coffee-seeking parents, a poolside hamburger joint, a bar and healthier restaurants.
The lodge’s offerings are for families staying in the resort. Day passes are not available, although guests can host friends for a day for an additional charge. Rooms are not inexpensive, although discounts are plentiful.
The chain, the largest of its kind in the country, was founded in 1997 as Black Wolf Lodge. New ownership brought a new name and aggressive expansion.
