Trinidad Lake State Park
Las Animas County, west of Trinidad
Water sports abound in the mild climate and large lake at Trinidad Lake State Park.
Boating, water skiing and jet skis are permitted, with two marinas.
Fishing is available for rainbow and brown trout, largemouth bass, channel catfish, walleye, crappie and bluegill.
Hiking trails take visitors through spectacular scenery and eons of local history. Trinidad, a former mining town, offers attractions including museums and galleries, and nearby are Bent’s Old Fort near La Junta, Francisco Fort Museum in La Veta, golf courses and the scenic Highway of Legends.
A group camp facility is available by reservation along with more than 70 campsites in two campgrounds, some open during winter months.
In winter, ice fishing and snowshoeing are allowed in appropriate weather conditions.
