Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area
Location: Along the Arkansas River from Leadville to Pueblo

The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area is a favorite for kayaking and whitewater rafting.

The Arkansas is a popular rafting site with every kind of rapids from mild to scary. The river is one of the busiest rafting locations in the United States, and the park follows the river for 150 miles, from Leadville to Pueblo, as it passes through the mountains to the plains.

Fishing, hiking, camping, picnicking, even gold panning, are available in or near the park.

The park’s office is in Salida, but the park can be accessed from numerous locations along the river. River sites are open 24 hours year round.
