The Country Boy Mine in French Gulch east of Breckenridge offers guided 45-minute tours that take visitors 1,000 feet deep into a mine that was first patented in 1887.

The mine produced silver, lead, zinc and gold and was in full operation until the mid-1890s. It continued operations longer than most in the area because its zinc deposits were valuable to the military for World War I and World War II.

Visitors also can pan for gold in Eureka Creek, pet the burros, slide down the 55-foot ore chute and view the blacksmith shop and historic mine equipment and artifacts.

The mine is a constant 45 degrees year-round, so bring a jacket even in the summer. The mine also can be wet in the spring.
