Location: Jefferson and Gilpin counties, off Colorado 93 between Golden and Nederland

Golden Gate Canyon State Park, just 30 miles west of Denver, offers more than 12,000 acres of forests, peaks and mountain meadows. From its Panorama Point, visitors can see 100 miles of the Continental Divide.

Hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking are available, as are winter sports such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, ice fishing and ice skating.

Two campgrounds, five cabins and two yurts can accommodate overnight guests.

Picnic areas, group camping areas, meeting rooms and an event facility at Panorama Point provide amenities for groups.

The park originally was a ranch belonging to the Green family, from 1917 until the early 1970s.
