John Martin Reservoir State Park
Location: Bent County, northeast of Las Animas

John Martin Reservoir State Park is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with more than 400 species documented, including pelicans, bald eagles, piping plover and least terns, just to name a few.

The park is also a favorite fishing spot, with walleye, bass, perch and catfish in the reservoir’s blue waters.

Boating, waterskiing and wind water sports are popular in mild weather. The rural location also offers spectacular views of stars in the night sky.

Visitors also can travel easily to some of Southeast Colorado’s historic sites, such as Bent’s Old Fort and the Comanche National Grasslands. Almost half of the 109 campsites at Lake Hasty Campground are available year-round.
