The 110-acre Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Preserve is the site of the former summer home for the family of businessman and philanthropist Charles Boettcher and sits atop Lookout Mountain near Golden.
In 1968, Boettcher’s granddaughter gave the home, which had been built in 1917, and the site to the city and county of Denver. The home is now used for meetings and social events.
The nature center, built in 1997, houses interactive exhibits about the ecology of the region and demonstrates sustainable building materials and design. Outside are breathtaking overlooks, easy and challenging trails. The area is a habitat for black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, mule deer, elk and Abert’s squirrels.
