The name Museum of Friends came from the fact that its founders wanted to honor the friends who gave them the 600 pieces of contemporary art that form its permanent collection.
Artists Brendt and Maria Cocchiarelli Berger accumulated paintings, photographs, sculpture and other items, and their friends continue to provide more art to expand the collection.
The 6,000-square-foot facility, opened in 2006, has a mission of sharing art that was freely given to the founders, along with special exhibits, educational programs, a reference library, and an interactive web site. Programs for adults and children are offered.
“Nearly every painting, print, drawing, and sculpture in MOF represents a gesture that resonates meaning to the founders of this collection,” the museum’s website says.
